Server Stability Update
The hosting server recently had issues, due to clamav anti virus filling up the server tmp folder. This has now been resolved.
New features added for videos. Latest version of PHP 5.2.3. installed.

Cpanel Access :: Now Back Up
Finally our server provider has purchased a new license for us, and cpanel is now backup and running. No apology or reason given on why it took them so long to renew the license, and our customers had to suffer as a result. Please note that the alternative usermin service will be left up and running, in the event of future failures to renew the license, or any other "technical problems" of a none described nature.

FTP AND FRONTPAGE
The technical details here are sketchy at best, but we have listened to customers requests on frontpage synchronization of files. The current ftp server is not properly handling file synchronization. Unknown to our customers, we have been trying to come up with a proper solution, but unfortunately many other ftp servers suffer from a similar issue - when you upload a file to the server, it's date/time stamp gets set to local server time, when you download it, it tends to remain the same time.
So we have two solutions. Keep the current ftp server for none frontpage users, but setup a new ftp server on a different port specifically designed for frontpage users, which handles full file sync. Alternatively, replace the old ftp server, which generally works well, with one single new ftp server which handles all the customer requests required, include those of frontpage users.
We will give out more details as they become available.

PHP Eaccelerator installed + FastCGI supported
Hi, as a means to further improve the server, we have undertaken over the last few months some additional server features and upgrades, these include php eaccelerator to speed up php based programs and reduce server loadings, an additional backup user administration service should cpanel access be lost - functional site administration, the server now also supports fast cgi applications, and some process monitors have been added (monit) to keep key systems up and functioning, initally just for shoutcast services, but will be expanded into ftp.
One of the major upgrades, due to a single client request, was server support towards high volume uploading of files, and process monitoring of uploads, and real time video conversion software - wmv/realtime videos etc into flash format. PHP now fully supports ffmpeg utilities for video analysis/probing, aswell as server side the ability to convert videos via ffmpeg and flvtool2 meta data, also support mplayer conversion software.
We look forward to 2008, and new prices/product packages that will be introduced to replace the flat rate one that currently exists.

Cpanel Access
Unfortunately due to no fault of 1st-amendment, the cpanel license was not renewed by our server provider, this has resulted in the loss of cpanel site administration. While we investigate ways of correcting this situation, we do have an alternative web control system in place, which also allows site administration / emails etc, if somewhat more complicated, but also more functional, then cpanel.
This is accessible via this common url: http://server.tradewebhosting.com:20000/
The same login information as used on cpanel is accepted by this service. We will be aiming to get cpanel back up and running as soon as possible.

Zend Optimiser
Our main batch of server upgrading is now completed. Server Services have now been fixed, and ZEND OPTIMISER for php has been installed, to improve site performance. Some PHP functions have been disabled for security reasons - including PHP_AUTH, if this is a problem with your websites please let us know, as there is a work around.

OS Update Scheduled
We need to inform our customers that alas there is likely to be some forth coming server downtime - the OS on the server needs to be reloaded with the latest patches, and some old mods/hacks need clearing out. Expected downtime maybe as long as 24 hours, which is including your domain restorations, and post server reconfigurations. We shall keep you informed of developments here, dates, before the server goes offline.
This is all part of our dedication towards achieved our key goals.

FTP access
For our existing customers, if since the server upgrade you cannot FTP into your site please replace your hostname in your ftp client with your domain name, replacing any specific ip address. Any ip addresses which relate to the old server will not work on this new server. If you still have problems, than please contact us in the normal manner.

New Dual Xeon Server
As most of our customer are now aware, 1st-amendment is now on a Dual Xeon processor server. There were some teething problems with the transition, but most of these have been ironed out now.
Improvements have been made to service monitoring in the last 24 hours, including a public service display on the main hosting page of 1st-amendment.
Despite many people globally not likely freedom of speech (there should be no limits to freedom, entropically, poilitically, or otherwise) and hence denial of service attacks against out customers, we aim to achieve 100% uptime of the server, and average cpu loads of less than 90%. We are actively working towards this aim, as we believe our customers should expect nothing but the best possible service.
